ICTS Review Workshops

The Center for Academic Development provides regular review workshops to help educators prepare for many of the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) certification tests.

Basic Skills review workshops are conducted by CAD coordinators on a scheduled basis prior to the testing dates announced by the Illinois Certification Testing System (ICTS). NLU students and non-NLU participants are welcome to attend the sessions that are held on a variety of dates on the Chicagoland campuses.

Review workshops for Content Area and APT tests are provided if requested by NLU faculty or a group of NLU students.

Classroom Presentations and Workshops

The CAD welcomes the opportunity to visit classrooms and present or facilitate workshops on these and many more topics:

  • effective writing skills, including organizing material, writing an outline, proofreading, and editing
  • writing research papers using APA style to cite sources
  • resume writing for students in Elementary Education who are compiling their portfolios

Workshop Schedule

Basic Skills Review Workshops are designed for students who must take the Illinois Basic Skills Test administered by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) for teacher certification.

The reviews are designed to introduce the types of questions that may be encountered on the test, provide suggestions on how to answer those questions, and review skills that attendees may not have used for years.

The main goal of the reviews is to prepare students to maximize their scores on the test.

There are two separate three-hour workshops:

1. A review of reading comprehension, grammar, and writing skills

2. A review of basic math skills

(See Basic Skills Supplemental Math Review Workshops below for additional pre- and post-review workshops)
